The Museum Builders: A Story of Fossils and Friendship

(Lincoln, Neb.) June 29, 2018 - Live Love Discover and Huskertech have paired up to create a mobile application featuring the latest in experiential technology that enhances the temporary exhibit, “Museum Builders: A Story of Fossils & Friendship” located on the third floor of the University of Nebraska State Museum-Morrill Hall. Adding an extra layer of adventure and immersion, this newly released app uses Bluetooth Low Energy, Augmented Reality, and Image Detection to give you a peak into the future of museums while learning about our oldest museum’s past.

Augmented Reality technology is not as well-known as virtual reality- which has already been adopted in the consumer marketplace. Augmented reality takes VR to the next level of engagement. Instead of the user being completely immersed in a digital environment, augmented reality takes the individual 3-D elements from the scene, and places them over the user’s current view, giving the illusion that the elements are in the same room as the user.

iBeacons™ are used within the exhibit to automatically activate different locations on an audio tour (featuring the voice of Huskertech Manager, Casadi Johnson). iBeacons use Bluetooth-LE to ping their location to your device, giving your phone a sense of where you are within the room. When you approach a section with an audio enhancement, it will begin to play even if locked- so headphones are encouraged!

The Museum Builders app uses image-detection to scan a large print of the Lincoln Capitol Rotunda floor and displays corresponding images and information obtained from the field notes of the friends and founders of the museum.

Though only compatible with iPhones running iOS 11.3 or above*, the app is available on Huskertech sponsored phones for public use inside the exhibit- ensuring anyone can test these new interactives. The store, located in the basement of the UNL City Union, will also take $10 off any in-stock Beats headphones for anyone on their way to Morrill Hall.**

The temporary exhibit on display inside Morrill Hall through Spring 2019, connects past to future and concludes with a preview of the redevelopment of the fourth floor, Cherish Nebraska.

LLD is a community-based platform centered around the fusion of nature and technology that allows artists to showcase their own work, while being a creative entity of its own that gives back to the community. In 2015, CEO Jared Brosius had an idea. He saw the world around him and knew that he needed to make a change for the better. He loved technology and saw the potential it had, but became aware of the unhealthy habits and characteristics that erupted from it. He also pictured the potential that technology had in bringing people together if implemented correctly. This led to the formation of LLD in Lincoln, Nebraska in September of 2016.
